The Creature of Kapu Cave is the fifteenth game in the Nancy Drew adventure series. It is based on Nancy Drew Mystery Stories #143: Mystery on Maui. The player can assume the roles of Nancy, Frank Hardy, or Joe Hardy during different parts of the game.
Synopsis[]
Team up with the Hardy Boys and track an ancient legend through Hawaii!
You, as Nancy Drew, travel to Hawaii to serve as a research assistant to Dr. Quigley Kim, who is an entomologist, or a bug scientist. Upon arriving, you discover that the Hardy Boys are also on the island; they're investigating the father-daughter duo who run the vacation center, Big Island Mike's Immersion Excursion, making sure the family has no dark secrets before being used in an ad campaign. Leaving the Hardy Boys to their case, you head off to the entomologist's camp, but soon discover another mystery. The island's pineapple crops are virtually disappearing, and some attribute it to Kane Okala, a legendary "rough-skinned" figure who's apparently been seen in the jungle lately and had been killed in a volcano centuries ago and now prowls the island wrecking havoc. Also, you discover that the camp has been ravaged and Dr. Kim is missing. Now it's up to you to uncover this intricate web of mysteries!

Dr. Quigley Kim[]
Dr. Kim is an entomologist studying in the Hawaiian jungle. While she's extremely interested in her work, she's also slightly impatient with Nancy, and also tends to digress badly while talking about various things.
Big Island Mike Mapu[]
Mike, a native Hawaiian, runs Big Island Mike's Immersion Excursion, a tourist center. His business stance is to get the tourist to do traditional Hawaiian activities, and he loves convincing people to try out necklace-making or fishing.
Pua Mapu[]
Pua is Mike's daughter. Her entire life is dedicated to surfing, and she's teaching Frank and Joe to surf as well.
Dr. Malachi Craven[]
Dr. Craven is the lead scientist at the Hilihili Research Center, which Nancy visits in the course of her investigation. Extremely sour and bad-tempered, he doesn't hesitate to fire or otherwise kick out those who aggravate him.
The Hardy Boys[]
Frank and Joe Hardy run into Nancy by chance in Hawaii during their investigation of Mike and Pua Mapu. Frank or Joe can also be played when Nancy calls them on her phone, then they can then call her to play as Nancy again.
Phone Friends[]
Nancy, Frank and Joe use cell phones accessed by icons at the bottom of the screen.
Ned Nickerson[]
Ned is Nancy's boyfriend, and he can give her advice if she's a Junior Detective.

- It is rumored that production on this game was shortened greatly, to focus on the production of The White Wolf of Icicle Creek, which featured a new interface.
