Gilbert "Gil" Bobbsey is a recurring character in The CW's 2019 television series, Nancy Drew. He is portrayed by Praneet Akilla.
Character[]
A charismatic wise-ass with street smarts from growing up poor on the wrong side of the tracks. Enterprising and irreverent, he does odd jobs and pulls off petty crimes with his sister to make ends meet. His first encounter with Nancy Drew is wryly contentious and full of mutual sparks, promising much more to come in their future.[2]
History[]
Gil grew up in Horseshoe Bay, Maine alongside his older twin sister Amanda. When they were six, their father was arrested and placed into county prison for six months. The kids were left in the care of their mother, Rosemary Bobbsey, who was mercurial but often forgot to buy them shoes. She would go for walks at a trail but return in time to pick them up from school. One day, Rosemary stopped coming to pick up her children and the police opened an investigation. They found signs of a struggle in the woods and believed she had been murdered by Eddie Collins, whom she was having an affair with. They never found her body so they never pressed charges. Gil and Amanda were placed into their fathers care upon his release from prison. Mr. Bobbsey worked as the keeper of Hudson Lodge, and told Gil stories about an ancient mirror. He claimed the mirror was used by a Hudson ancestor who summoned the Aglaeca alongside five other women in white. Gil and Amanda later became petty criminals and thieves, with nearly identical arrest records.
Plot summary[]
Gil and his twin sister Amanda responds to a Twitter SOS from a Nancy Drew account asking for help defeating the Aglaeca. Things quickly go South when the Gorham Wraith preys on the twins, landing Amanda in the hospital while Gil is stranded in an abandoned bus without his insulin. One of the scarecrows comes to life and attacks the Drew Crew, causing them to run towards a bus. The Drew Crew go searching for Gil and find the bus where they meet Gil, who recommends that they keep their hands away from the windows. He doesn’t care about the pump he just wants his money, he refuses to accept the pump without his money. He even tries to negotiate with them by raising his price for the mirror. He goes into shock and Nick administers the insulin. Nancy looks for the mirror and finds it in Gil’s bag, though he grabs her hand warning her not to steal from a thief. He then notices his sister isn’t with them. Nancy tells him that his sister is in the hospital but they can’t leave as the wraith is out there. They try to stay calm while the Wraith attacks the bus, since it can smell their fear. Gil wants to know how they pissed off the Aglaeca, though Nancy wants him to explain the mirror first. He saw it in the Hudson Lodge as his father was the caretaker, who claimed the mirror belonged to a Hudson ancestor, one of the first women to call to the spirit. The Wraith continues to attack, so Nancy tells her friends and Gil to run while she stays behind to lure the Wraith with her fear. She ends up lighting the bus on fire as the Wraith is scared of fire. Gil pulls her out of the burning bus seconds before it can explode. Nancy thanks Gil for saving her and gives him the $750 for the mirror, but he ups it to $950 which she complies. The duo are arrested by Detective Tumara for being in possession of the stolen mirror. Gil is able to reunite with his sister, who has woken up from her coma, while Ryan Hudson drops the charges for the mirror, inadvertently freeing Gil.[3]
