In Secrets Can Kill, Stay Tuned for Danger, and Secrets Can Kill: Remastered, secret codes are hidden throughout the environment. In the first two games, they provide fun insights or clues and are not canon. The codes in Secrets Can Kill: Remastered are canon, as Jake Rogers worked at Maxine's Diner and was the library aide at Paseo del Mar High School, having the proper access and ability to print and place them. They contained clues to what he was up to, in case he would be murdered. Secrets Can Kill In Aunt Eloise's house, the first letters of each of these flowers in this book are green. They spell out "Mitch". In Aunt Eloise's house, the book with the map of Florida has a Morse Code message around its border. A book on Morse Code in the library can help with its translation. It says "blade upon glass gets you in class". The menu at Maxine's Diner has some letters that are purple or red. The red letters spell danger and the purple letters spell sabotage. On the napkin dispenser at Maxine's, the numbers 1, 5, 10 and 11 are red. These are the letters that spell "JAKE" in the alphabet. The menu behind Daryl has some letters that are red. On the left, they spell soup ladle, and on the right, they spell bolt cutter. This is the same in Secrets Can Kill: Remastered, but a closeup of it is not obtainable. At the bottom of the work schedule at Maxine's, there is a number to letter code which says "Jake's fate happened deliberately. Gravity was not his worst enemy." On a billboard in the school, a code with improperly placed spaces reads "There's more than one way to remove a chain so thick. Aside from the combination, Mel's bolt cutter can do the trick." This has a double meaning; Nancy can use the bolt cutters or use the combination to remove the chains. On a billboard in the school, a message pad is posted upside down with the words "In the face of danger, against a killer if you dare, a very unlikely couple could be a helpful pair." on it. This refers to Connie and Daryl at the end of the game. On a billboard at the school, a mirrored upside down message reads "When things go astray tonight at Vandelay, it will not help to run, so you must grab the gun!". On a billboard in the school, a message has certain letters on it underlined which read "Search below danger sign in kitchen", giving a clue as to how to find the bolt cutters. On a billboard at the school, a play is advertised called "Doctor Deception" and is described as "A Poetic Drama written by the Seniors of Paseo H.S. Student files under lock and key will show the lies of a doctor-to-be." On one of the bulletin boards at the school, a mirrored message says "Jake's locker combo was part of his fame. Just find a phone to decode his name." An upside down message on one of the bulletin boards in the school reads "The video is out there, murderer denies knowledge". One of the bulletin boards in the school has a notice that has a code hidden in the first letter of each line. It says "teachers lounge". A message with improperly placed spaces on one of the bulletin boards in the high school reads "Find the morning edition and discover another crime. The answer is in black and white to who will do the time," referring to the newspaper about the pharmacy break in. One of the bulletin boards in the school has three messages on it. The first is backwards and upside down and when read from bottom to top, it says "Nowhere to turn to, nowhere to hide. Let the books in the library be your answer guide." The second one uses the same code but is not upside down, and says "A symbol of kanji worn with great pride reflects a big secret that someone must hide." The third code is mirrored and upside down, and says "He did what it took to make the grade, even if it meant cheating to keep up his charade." The eye in the gym, when read backwards, says "If you can read this, make no mistake, a genuine first class detective you'll make!" The administration sign in board in the teacher's lounge reads "Tanaka Cheats" when taking the first letter of each name. The periodic table in the teacher's lounge has elements highlighted that spell out "search behind boiler". A notepad in the teacher's lounge says "Before you see the enemy, examine the elevator." The map in the teacher's lounge has letters around it that spell out "A trophy was not the only prize, but also money of a greater size", and "CW" is on the sides, meaning Connie Watson. The bottom of the security report has a number-to-letter code that says "Braille Keypad". A piece of paper in the teacher's lounge has a sign language code. A sign language book in the library can help to translate it. Going from left to right, they spell out "E was innocent". Putting the red letters in the red spaces below and the black letters in the black spaces, it turns out to be an anagram for Connie Watson, who can logically be substituted for "E". On the desk in the library, there is a form with italicized, bolded words that say "Sabotage should cause concern, but with the gloves, you will not burn." The dedication plaque in the memorial library is for Principal Robile Moor Rodo. Since this is obviously a fake name, it is an anagram for boiler room door. The dedication date, 6-6-83, is a clue to the boiler room password. This can be gotten from looking at 6, 6, 8 and 3 on a phone. One of the books on the shelf in the library has an anagram on the spine. It reads "A borrowed time to renew, leads to a suspect and a clue." One of the books in the library has purple letters in it. These spell out "Don't run, Nancy." The sign language book in the library has blue numbers and blue letters, which spell "5253" and "Jake". A simple reverse-alphabet cryptogram is on the notepad in the library. It says "The one with the temper and the iron fist is more than a prime suspect on Jake's blackmail list." A paper in the library has blue letters and green letters. Reading the blue letters and then the green letters, it says "The bolt cutter you must take! Or you could be the next Jake!" This is not entirely true as Nancy can find a combination instead of using bolt cutters. A word search is in the library with words related to the case. The completed word search. Secrets Can Kill: Remastered The menu in Maxine's Diner has red, purple, green, blue and pink letters. They spell out "His journal is my cash cow." The notice in the kitchen of Maxine's Diner has numbers at the bottom of it which indicate a line and word to look at (as in first line, third word). It spells out "Daryl brings secrets to diner to get cash for a life so finer." The work schedule at Maxine's has a code at the bottom of it which is read from top to bottom, left to right. It says "Check yer eyesight in gym." One of the bulletin boards in the school has text that is cut in half that says "A crane contestant in a masked disguise won the prize money despite all the lies." A notice on one of the bulletin boards in the school has a code in the first letter of every line. It says "fifth map drawer". A message on a bulletin board in the school says "Up, down, left, right. The first letters will help my plight." A mirrored message on a bulletin board in the school says "Grape, grape, orange, cool will play the alarm in the school." A number to letter puzzle on a bulletin board in the school says "Cool, Cool, Pop, Spot, Grape". This code gives an Easter Egg when put into the soda machine. A message with misplaced spaces on a bulletin board in the school says "Find the morning edition and discover another crime. The answer is in black and white to who will do the time." A message on a bulletin board in the school has some underlined letters which spell out "Put elements in order to open puzzle." A notepad on a bulletin board in the school has a top to bottom, left to right code which reads "Sinners on a vid". A mirrored message on a bulletin board in the school reads "The hidden video tape will seal my murderer's fate." Three messages are on a bulletin board in the school with different codes on them. The first, which is backwards and upside down says "Nowhere to turn to, nowhere to hide. Let the books in the library be your answer guide." The second, which is backwards, says "A symbol of kanji, worn with great pride, reflects a secret that someone must hide." The third, which is mirrored and upside down, says "He did what it took to make the grade, even if meant cheating to keep up his charade." The eye chart in the gym, when read backwards, says "If anything happens to me, look in my chemistry book page three zero five." The administration sign in board in the teacher's lounge spells out "Tanaka Cheats" with the first letters of everyone's names. The border of the map in the teacher's lounge says "A trophy was not the only prize, but also money of a greater size." A paper in the fifth map drawer in the library has blue letters and red letters. When the red letters and then the blue letters are read, it says "If anything happens to me, search under my combo in catalog!" Stay Tuned for Danger An eye is visible on Mattie's calendar, with dots near the 9, 3, and 21 ("I C U"). These dots and the eye disappear when the calendar is clicked on. The second row of Rick's chocolates spells out "Die Rick". This is probably canon. A reverse alphabet anagram is on the cover of The Publicity Stunts album in Rick's dressing room. It reads "One motive which deserves a mention: A simple hoax for pure attention." Given the title of the album, this could be canon, too. The plaque in Mattie's dressing room reads "A mask of sweet sincerity, a cloak of loving kindness. Meant to sway the heart to trust, and fill the eyes with blindness." The bell in the prop room says "The key to a mystery is revealed by the wise when the bell sounds its toll and the moon makes its rise," referring to the clock on the set. The border of Millie's world map says "When gates are locked and paths are blocked then look for other ways. The answer lies beneath your eyes to this perplexing maze." The unused letters in the crossword in the prop room can spell out Dwayne Powers or Owen W. Spayder. Some keys on Millie's typewriter are highlighted. They spell out "Hate Rick". The inside cover of Millie's log book contains a clue to finding her computer password. It is a number to letter code which reads "Many pages come before this in the log book with a clue, but nothing comes after this unless it's written on the glue." The numbers in the corner of the crate invoice on the stage are a number to letter code, with 0 marking the spaces between letters. It spells out "Escape harm sound alarm." The blue notes in "Mystery is in the Air" in the prop room say "Cage a bad egg, ace!". A sticky note on Lillian's computer with misplaced spaces spells out "Thorns and petals of demise are a bitter reflection of one's envy and despise," referring to the dead roses in Rick's room. A number to letter code is in Lillian's planner which says "Life is like a box of chocolates." Italicized words in Lillian's fax from Bill say "A bitter hoax tainted with hate is a secret revenge from a previous date." Faded letters on the control room board say "Light reveals what is hidden in the darkness. But first you must unlock the power of the light." Dwayne's fortune cookie has misplaced spaces and says "Even though revenge should be sweet, jealous acts will end in defeat." Dwayne's book, The Art of Gentle Persuasion, is written by Amanda Watch, Ima De Lusion, and N. D. Kant-Hyde. A reverse alphabet cryptogram is on Dwayne's bomb diagram, which reads "One will come and one will go. Never the two of their faces show. Follow one to find another. Catch the first, you've caught the other!" describing the end of the game. After the bomb is disarmed, it says 7734, which looks like "hell" backwards and upside down, and is also the first part of Dwayne's briefacse combination backwards. There is a word search in Mattie's dressing room with words that have to do with the case. The completed word search. The left over letters spell "Shattered glass, long lost dreams. A broken timepiece is more than it seems."
