Nancy Drew

This page is about the character; for the novel series, and franchise in general, see Nancy Drew (franchise).

Nancy Drew is the title character and the main protagonist in the Nancy Drew Mystery Stories. Nancy is a teenage, amateur detective, who lives with her father, Carson Drew, in the small town of River Heights. She is often assisted on her crime investigations by her two best friends, Bess Marvin and George Fayne, the Hardy Boys and on occasion her boyfriend, Ned Nickerson. She is portrayed by Emma Roberts in the 2007 film.

Nancy Drew's mother died when Nancy was only three years old. The Drew's housekeeper, Hannah Gruen, has since become like a mother to Nancy. Nancy has a very good relationship with her father, whose lawyering job tends to call him away on business quite often. Nancy has a dog called Togo. She lives in a town called River Heights.

For more detailed information on Nancy Drew please see the pages for the specific incarnations of the character below.

Nancy is around 16-18 years old and is commonly described as having red-blond hair and blue eyes.  She is often said to have a "timeless" look when it comes to her clothing choices, wearing them more for comfort than for fashion styles.

Nancyoriginal Nancy Drew (Original)

Nancy Drew of the Original continuity. Nancy Drew is depicted as an independent-minded 16-year-old who has already completed her high school education (16 was the minimum age for graduation at the time); the series also occurs over time, as she is 18 by the early 1940's. Apparently affluent, she maintains an active social, volunteer, and sleuthing schedule, as well as participating in athletics and the arts, but is never shown as working for a living or acquiring job skills. Nancy is affected neither by the Great Depression—although many of the characters in her early cases need assistance as they are poverty-stricken—nor by World War II. Nancy lives with her lawyer father, Carson Drew, and their housekeeper, Mrs. Hannah Gruen. Some critics prefer the Nancy of these volumes, largely written by Mildred Benson.
